argument from authority isn't all bad

I dunno about this whole 'argument from authority is bad' thing. It seems to me that referencing a professor who did some research, to justify your opinions, is as much an argument from authority as saying 'it's in the bible.' The key point here is not that you're citing an 'authority', and that just is bad. The important point is whether that 'authority' is entitled to their own opinion, whether they earned the right to that opinion.
